Albert Einstein once wrote, "Our task is to free ourselves from the delusion by widening our circle of compassion, to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in all its beauty." Perhaps this quote partially expresses why I am a painter and why I am driven to bring light and beauty to form. Painting is a miraculous process for me, a truly mystical experience. It allows me, for a time, to slip inside a world of observation. Outfitted with nothing more than a few tubes of paint, a handful of brushes and a blank canvas, it is my job to embrace everthing with compassion and to experience the world in its totality. I don't really understand how the inspiration comes only that it is the place where I seek not to delude myself by analyzing or criticizing, but rather discover truth while expressing what I see and feel. |
